Preach It

Another one of those verses of blessing that just spring out as you're reading the Bible! This one is from the beginning of the Book of Revelation.

Revelation 1:1-3 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants1  the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant2  John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

Verse 3 in Revelation 1 is the verse that stands out. It's message is that all who read alound the words of this prophecy shall be blessed! It says 'read aloud', not 'say in your head', not 'mumble quietly' but 'read aloud'.

Strongs gives the word 'read' as

G314 ἀναγινώσκω anaginosko (a-na-ǰiy-nō'-skō) v.
1. to know again.
2. (by extension) to read.

We know from evidence from inscriptions found at 1st Century Jewish synagogues that the word was also used as an equivalent to the phrase in Jeremiah 3:12 (a), and used to refer to communal reading of God's word.

Jeremiah 3:12 (CSB): 12 Go, proclaim these words to the north, and say,

‘Return, unfaithful Israel.
This is the LORD’s declaration.
I will not look on you with anger,
for I am unfailing in my love.
This is the LORD’s declaration.
I will not be angry forever.

So today, speak aloud the words of God and come into His blessing. Let those who hear the words of God be blessed also!

Chris

I'm someone who came to faith as an adult after a short period of searching for something. I wasn't raised in the church or in any denomination so everything about faith has been new to me. You can read my testimony here.

My family background has been nominal Christian with a strong working class ethos. I tend to have strong moral values but am an economic liberal in the English tradition.

Happily married with 2 dogs, 2 cats and grown up children.
